Can I please just say...it was almost 70 degrees today. It is January....ps
So what song has been on my mind today?
This one.....
Last night I got to talk with a really good friend. I got to hear all about their dating background....And I shared a lot of mine. Not all of it of course....cause no one needs to hear all that.
But it got me thinking...about a few of my previous relationships.
And then I woke up this morning and this song came on my ipod first.
And I thought a lot about it.
Every person...guy/girl...young/old...friend/foe...has had an effect on me.
Some are still with me....still on my mind a lot.
But everyone is still on my heart...just like a tattoo
A few years back I taught a couple Relief Society lessons in my home ward. This group of women has known me since I was 8. They are former Primary teachers, former Young Women's leaders. And to this day...my mother still tells me that some of the women still talk about my lessons. Seriously these lessons were like 4ish years ago! I thought these were supposed to be old women with memory issues!
But they remember.
And I guess I am ok with that. I don't understand it...but I'm ok with it. Cause I LOVE to teach. I have been drawn to maternal/child health/nursing because there is so much teaching involved.
I taught preschool and loved coming up with lesson plans and tying all of the day's activities in with the lesson.
I am so excited for my Community Health clinicals because I get to do a lot of preventative teaching.
Last Sunday morning, my Branch President called me in to release me from my calling as Relief Society 2nd counselor.
It was completely out of the blue and unexpected. And came on a day when I had a lot of other stuff on my mind, kind of weighing me down. And so after a minor breakdown...followed by a major breakdown (thank goodness for big sisters who don't mind that you just took 90ish minutes of their time to SOB!) I had kind of run out of emotions..and I realized...I had a new calling! Crazy!
I have been called to be a teacher in the Relief Society. I get to teach! I get to study the lessons and bring together what I think the girls need to hear and need to learn. I get to have a connection with each girl as I learn about them through our discussions. I get to provide a (hopefully) enlightening third hour for the girls...that they will want to stay for.
So yesterday I mentioned that I was told I am intimidating, until you get to know me. But ummm...how are you going to get to know me if you are scared of me. This is vicious circle...that I don't see the end of.
My first thought is..well then... I'll be less intimidating.
But I don't know how to be less intimidating. I don't even try to be.
(I'm just smart, beautiful, accomplished, delightful and magnificent all on accident HAHA YEAH RIGHT!)
And that's just the thing. I try to befriend everyone and I try to appear like an open, accepting and kind person...and I really don't exhibit any of the above mentioned qualities.
So then why am I intimidating?
I am reminded me of a conversation I once had with my old roommate Beth
(ps love and miss you my dear!)
We were discussing how Library Boy seemed to be incapable of finding his big boy pants...and then putting those big boy pants on
I knew Library Boy pretty well....and kinda got the impression that he was nervous....scared...afraid. Beth, of course, like all girls in this situation, couldn't understand.
Why on earth would a guy be scared of me.....
"I'm like the Barney of dating!"
But my dear Beth and all other girls out there....
"You are still a dinosaur!"
(PS...please stop for a moment and be impressed that I pulled that metaphor out without hardly thinking..yes I am a metaphorical beast!)
You may be friendly and purple....
but you have teeth...and are alarmingly large
You may not feel you are intimidating.
That you are just a regular girl.
But you are still a girl.
And this comes with an innate intimidating-ness.
But here is the thing....it appears I am intimidating above and beyond the normal level of female intimidating-ness. The average girl is at a 5...and I seem to be a 10. Plus...girls are intimidated too! Not just guys!
Whats up with that???
IM BARNEY FOR GOODNESS SAKE!!!
Not cool. I don't want to be intimidating. Or unapproachable. But I also don't want to change to somehow become more accessible. And to be completely honest...I'm not sure what I would change.
This is a pickle.....that I can't seem to eat....so I blog instead....maybe someone will comment and enlighten me.....
I thought for a bit of fun I would turn today's traditional post a bit upside down :)
-I know its crazy but I don't like that I have so little to do. I'm quite bored
-Commercials in the middle of movies...I found 500 Days of Summer on tonight...and it kept getting interrupted!!
-Headaches...and not being able to take an Excedrin so close to bed time
-Professors who manage to draw out 5 power-point slides into an hour long lecture!!!!!
-The nasty, sleet/rain/snow stuff that is currently falling from the sky
-Service that requires you to get up at 7 AM on a Saturday morning
-People asking others how I am doing instead of asking me. Just a thought..but perhaps I am the one most qualified to answer the question. Though your concern in general is appreciated....next time just ask me!
-The fact that I am intimidating...in the eyes of more than one person apparently.....also....the fact that people in general seem to think that this is a compliment. Ummmm...not really
Please know that I am not grumpy about any of these things...just jovially annoyed :)
Here's hoping your Friday was moderately less annoying!
I have THE best brother in the world. Seriously I will fight you. Mine is better! Seriously!
He is sweet. He has a true and deep concern for the people he loves. We sometimes have to censor our letters to make sure he won't worry.
He is, according to other people (I can't see it cause I still kinda hold a slight grudge for when he would pull all the books off my bookshelf and I would have to clean them up), attractive....weird!
He is great at making me calm down. There is a message saved on my voice mail from a year or so ago I still listen to sometimes in my freak out moments. I had just finished a nursing school interview and I had texted him FREAKING...he responded by calling me and telling me to chill cause I am great and awesome!
He never got annoyed with me and my anxious traveler syndrome! He would just laugh..or roll his eyes...or tell me it was going to be fine.
At a lay-over in Denver where he allowed me to distract myself with a crazy amount of pictures!
He is SUPER strong in the Gospel..and getting stronger! He finishes all his emails telling us how true the Gospel is and how important the work he is doing is.
He is so helpful. All growing up that was the first thing teachers would say about him to my mom at parent-teacher conferences. He loves to help people in any way he can. His emails are always full of stories about how he fixed this or that for someone out there!
He is hard working. There is so much work to be done in Ghana. The church is very new there and he is working so hard to help the new members grow. He really doesn't really like contacting and tracting, but he still does it!
He gives really good hugs. That might be what I miss most!
He is HYSTERICAL!!!! He can get the whole room rolling on the ground! His Yoda impression?? EPIC!!!!!!
He is one of the best listeners I know! Having 4 sisters has taught him a lot about listening! He is really good about just listening and not always trying to fix the problem.
He always helps me and never judges or makes fun of me...ok so he sometimes he does..but its always while he is letting me break his hand on the tram up the arch....or during take off and landing.
He is so cute and embarrassed every time girly things are brought up. You would think that with 5 out of our 7 being female he wouldn't be so uncomfortable. But you bring up certain words that start with p, t, or b....and he covers his ears and starts talking or singing really loud!
He is very protective. Whenever I tell him about a guy I am seeing he gets super protective. He wants all the details...and then approves or tells me to get rid of him. His words.. "Nope..not cool!" or "Nope...don't like him" "Ditch him" And even when he approves...he always tells me to be careful.
He is super cool...I mean really he just is!
He loves to have fun!
My baby brother...isn't much of a baby anymore!
Today he is 20...
I miss him more than ANYTHING!!!
And I want him to come home tomorrow!
But at the same time...I am so proud and so glad he is serving a mission.
Alright ladies...rewind in your minds to Young Womens. You are a little Beehive...and your instructor just pulled out a pink flowery paper with swirlies and hearts scattered on it for you to write your list on. Your list of perfect male specimen qualities. You in your naive wisdom sit and dream of your prince charming..and your list reflects this picture perfect man
-Curly hair
-Blue or Green Eyes
-Sense of Humor
-Muscles
-Priesthood and Temple Recommend Holder
-Basically the male Mary Poppins....Practically Perfect in Every Way
Ok...Fast forward 2 years. You are a Mia Maid. This time you are pretty sure the paper has been sprayed with perfume and is now puking hearts. You think you are so grown up, and you picture the boy of your dreams...who you will most surely meet at the Stake Dance next month under twinkely lights with either Collide or Hero accompanying you as you dance
-Attractive
-Understanding/good listener
-Good job that will make you both lots of money
-Temple Recommend
2 more years??? You are a Laurel and have what you think is a very mature view of the world. You throw up just a little in your mouth when you see the paper this time. And though you don't plan on marrying EVER..cause boys are stupid and you are a strong and independent women now, you fill out the list to pacify your very concerned YW leader (who is very worried about how your views of marriage is going effect your salvation) Plus if your list is long enough....no guy will ever measure up and you will have a perfect excuse to be a spinster
-Temple Recommend
-Adored by my family
-Ambitious/goal-oriented
-Loves me
-Funny
-Smart
-Kind
-Trustworthy
-No brown eyes
-must be at least 6 feet tall
-doesn't play video games
-will provide well for future family
-good with/likes kids
-good vision, good teeth
-no genetic conditions
Then college comes. You meet lots of boys. And decide boys can be fun.
But then you can't seem to find one who likes you
And watch all your friends get married. Your list becomes.....
-Male
-Breathing
But these qualifications don't seem to get you any further than your long list.
So now...college graduate list
-Adored by my family..and adores them too
-Does nothing more than roll his eyes when I scream/squeal/OM GSH at the TV during The Bachelor
-Laughs at me when I yell at the TV during sporting events
-Accepts the fact that my sisters and I sing Veggie Tales at the top of our lungs on long car trips...bonus points for singing along
-Doesn't mind that I hit the snooze button excessively
-Is willing to wash his feet every night before he gets in bed....I HATE FEET!
-Is willing to help fold laundry (I hate it)
-Must mow the lawn or pay someone else too...cause I sure as heck won't
-Will not get annoyed with me when I refuse to kill a bug. I don't scream...but I also don't kill them if I don't have to! Also wont judge me when I catch them in a cup so that he can kill them once he gets home
-will be willing to load the dishwasher the way I want it loaded
-understands that sometimes I will just have to "Stop...dance it out"
-will roll with the punches every time we fly....I'm a very anxious traveler
-Is accepting of VERY long weekly conversations with my person ANDREA
-Is alright with my liking of David Archuleta, Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, and the Jonas Brothers
-must NOT be a sales guy
-will not make fun of me when I park crooked...as I often do
-will not laugh when my hands are freezing...my nose is cold and my toes turn a funny color they are so cold
-will understand that I CAN'T sleep if I am hot. I will open a window in January
-no red heads...sorry our kids would just look too wacky with my German/Italian skin and your red hair
-of course the regulars...Temple Recommend/Priesthood...RM...college degree and ambition...kind...understanding...likes/wants/is good with kids...financially responsible...preferably tall with eyes that are not brown (I want to give our kids a chance)...polite and good-natured
I think my list is even worse now than when I was Laurel!
Shoot...I'm never gonna get married ;) hehe
31 or BUST!!!! WAHOO!!!
Its too early for a Dear Boys linky party with Elise....so I will just post now and link up Wednesday.
Just had to get a few things off my chest
Dear AP
You always brightened my day when I was around. Gave me a healthy distraction from the terror that was my dating life. And you provided some great intrigue for my sisters. Were you looking at me? Were you just looking in my direction? Do you think I'm pretty...does my attractiveness or lack thereof even register in your mind? They were highly entertained so thank you :)
Love
One of the Giggly Girls who Sat Behind You ;)
Dear Hoops
I didn't go to preschool. So I never learned to share. I don't want you to be everyone's friend...just mine.
Love
A Girl Who Really Needs to Grow Up
Dear Flirty Face
You are gonna be a heart breaker my dear. You flirt with everyone and we all can't help but flirt back cause you are just too darn cute! The 20 year age difference does not bother me too much. I will surely wait for you :)
Love
A SUPER Cougar
Dear Handsy
Remember when I used to hate the fact that you were always all up in my grill? Remember when I told you to go away? Can you come back now? I've changed my mind!
Love
A Flip Flopper
Dear CCP
You gave the best hugs of any person I have ever known and not been related to. I always felt safe and protected and comforted. Don't get married till I come back k? Cause that could get a wee bit awkward ;)
Love
A Girl Who Could Use a Fantastic Hug
Dear Big Brother
Everytime I get a great guy friend he starts dating someone. But you are scared of girls and dating. This could be beneficial for me. Maybe I'll get a friend who will stick around for a bit. Or maybe you'll get yourself a girlfriend.
Love
A Girl Who is Going to Call You VERY SOON...be prepared
Dear Poo-Poo Head
Remember that time we sat and talked under the pine tree....and I told you I would get sap on my pants....and you said I wouldn't....and then I did??? Yeah...can we do that again?????
Love
A Girl Who Could Really Use a Friend
Dear Chicken Boy
I have had a few light-bulb moments about you this past week. Thank you for being so kind to me (before you became a jerk of course). You were very supportive of my being out here...and me being in nursing school. And I appreciate that. You had the most right of anyone to not be supportive. But you always were.
Love
An Enlightened Girl
Dear Foul Mouth
WATCH YOUR LANGUAGE MISTER! None of that with me around.

Dear Dead Horse Beater

An Animal Rights Activist
Dear Future Guy
It has become apparent that you are not around just yet. It appears I'm going to have to be patient. Somedays I don't care to find you. Others I wish you would show up on my doorstep.
I wonder what will happen. Prepare yourself my friend. This could get epic ;)
Love
Me
As always...check out Elise's Pieces...LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!!
Disappointment comes to us all at different times in our lives. I feel like kinda goes in cycles...and sometimes you just have a really happy cycle. Or a disappointing cycle.
And I think I am in kind of a disappointing time. (I say this frankly, not whiny or "woe is me"...its hard to get inflection in writing haha)
Lots of things I thought I had aren't what I thought and in fact aren't there at all.
I had been hoping for something to come...but it didn't work out.
I had been relying on a fact that turned out to not be totally true.
They always say that God answers all of our prayers.
Sometimes I wonder if he answers some of my prayers by not answering them.
It may seem kinda backwards but.......
listen to this song......
It is kind of a hard pill to swallow. Thinking that He allows things to happen to us that will cause us a little sufferings But...
What if my greatest disappointments Or the aching of this life
Is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can’t satisfy
And what if trials of this life
The rain, the storms, the hardest nights
Are Your mercies in disguise
So here's what I am going to do. I'm going to keep my chin up. I'm gonna ride this wave right up to the shore. Cause after I get there...I'm gonna get to rest in the sandy warmth :)
I'm sorry...I'm gonna include all the lyrics...its just too good of a song not to.... it will make this post super long...but you can always stop reading now ;)
We pray for blessings We pray for peace
Comfort for family, protection while we sleep
We pray for healing, for prosperity
We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering
All the while, You hear each spoken need
Yet love us way too much to give us lesser things
'Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise
We pray for wisdom Your voice to hear
And we cry in anger when we cannot feel You near
We doubt Your goodness, we doubt Your love
As if every promise from Your Word is not enough
All the while, You hear each desperate plea
And long that we'd have faith to believe
'Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near
And what if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise
When friends betray us When darkness seems to win
We know that pain reminds this heart
That this is not, this is not our home
It's not our home
'Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
And what if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near
What if my greatest disappointments
Or the aching of this life
Is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can’t satisfy
It's hard for me to get up in the morning. Make that all the time...my bed is so warm :( and relaxing. Lying in bed is not stressful...until you have laid there for so long you are going to be late ;)
I'm reminded of how much I love my family every time I quote something...and no one around me gets it
I feel self-conscious when...um always. Thank you adolescent development classes for helping me realize that I have slightly stagnated development and still have SERIOUS imaginary audience issues ;)
I am mildly dishonestwhen I tell people I am fine. Fine doesn't usually mean fine. It means I'm not fine..but I sure as heck aren't going to talk to you about it! haha
I can't imagine a world without hmmm what do I say here...the right answers are like the Gospel and family/friends. But honestly the first thing that comes to mind is chocolate.
I'm surprised that I still hate leaving home every time. No matter how long I have been there, or how soon I will be coming back....I always hate getting in that car and driving away.
I get a little too easily wrapped up in things that don't really matter.
I indulge in guilty pleasures like The Bachelor...and second dinner. And dancing when I am alone in my room ;)
I wish all things in life were as wonderful as sitting on a sunny dock in Montana with all my friends.
Here's a little link-up to Young People In Love.
Sam is such a cutey!
I'm so excited to watch her little family grow!
A few years ago, Elder Jeffery R Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles (leadership of the LDS church)
I remember when this talk was given. I remember thinking..what a nice talk, I should remember to speak kindly to everyone. And then I moved on. I fell into the trap so many others have also fallen into.
I have, especially in the past several years, been exactly what he described. I used sarcasm as humor. I gossiped. I used biting, passive aggressive words. My tongue turned into a sharp dagger, pulled out far too often.
It wasn't constant. I still was generally kind and compassionate, and I never spread vicious rumors. And I rationalized. I kept lots of secrets, and I told myself that made the gossiping..or "information gathering" ok. I told myself, people knew I was joking when I teased them. And it became habit. Became who I was. But I was rationalizing.
Then I got a taste of my own medicine. People I called friends made fun of me for any unintelligent thing said, called me names, and treated me with disrespect. And what would I do? Give a half smile or forced laugh, while inside, my stomach was turned in knots and my heart received another crack. It was happening all around me. It seemed that everyone wanted to jump in on the fun. The more it happened to me, the more I noticed it happening to others in the group. And I would again give that half smile and sit silently.
Anyone who has been reading my blog in the past month or so will know that I have been thinking about this a lot. This talk came to my mind through this thinking process. Its hard to hear such a firm chastisement that is clearly specially designed for me. But I have decided to take it to heart. And use it to motivate me. I want to create positive environments, where people are encouraged and free to be the best versions of themselves. I want to be kind and not make fun at the expense of others.
And today I want to make a little bit of a challenge. I have said I write on this blog not only to entertain, but also to make people think. To put them in the shoes of someone else and develop even more empathy for others.
Think about a time you were treated badly. Think of a time someone called you a derogatory name. Ever been called a Whore, a Slut or worse? Have you ever heard someone else called this, even if joking? Did you find it very funny? Did you feel very much like laughing? And even if you did laugh, did you feel just a little wrong about it?
We have the ability to be so kind. And at the same time so caustic.
So here is what I am going to do. I'm going to be more kind. I'm going to stop gossiping. I'm not going to use snide, rude comments. I'm not going to use others as the butts of jokes.
I'm going to let my tongue be the tongue of an angel.
Will you join me?
Its not going to be easy. I know I will slip up.
But I am going to try my hardest...until my trying becomes doing.
Try with me??? Lets lift people up...not push them down.
So a couple of blogger friends have made lists the past couple of days of why they are weird...and confessions they have. So I am following suit.......(is that the right suit???)
-I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE and am TOTALLY ADDICTED to The Bachelor..judge away!
-I don't like new sweatshirts or pj pants....I like them broken in. Hence why I steal so many of my brother's old clothes
-Over Thanksgiving break me and my sisters went to this modest wedding dress shop in my hometown and pretended I was engaged. Yes I tried on dresses...and discovered I have expensive taste YIKES!
-I Facebook Stalk EVERYONE...seriously I'm a creeper!!
-I know exactly how many days until I can ES-CAP-E from Columbia for FO-EVA (its 193 btw...do I have a paper chain I rip off every night?...YEP!)
-I currently have a mucho loco crush on a missionary currently serving in my parent's home ward. (ok you sinner! even worse than flip flops and crocks right L???)
-When I get a car...its name is going to be JB (not for Justin Bieber...for the Jonas Brothers) Also considered was JT...cause we would so be bringing sexy back!
-I still listen to Brittney, Christina, BS Boys, and *NSYNC...Just hit me baby one more time!
-I love love new razors. They give you such a good cut especially after the dull one you just got rid of. (weird I know..but I'm not disturbed I promise)
-Thanks to Tricia and an interestingly amusing moment in Kenna/Jess/Adrianne's apt...I still sometimes listen to Mariah Carey's I Want To Know What Love Is before/after/during my shower ;)
-I haven't seen the end of The Notebook or A Walk To Remember inalmost 3 years. It just always ends...no one dies (sorry for the spoiler haha)
-I often write things like sleep, eat, or relax, as well as stuff I have already done, on my to-do lists so I can cross them off and feel accomplished
So I am sitting in my room (in Columbia...I'm back!) with the window open (I remind you I live in MO and its JANUARY)
And I am listening to rain...pouring rain. And you know what else? THUNDER!
I'm also drying my hair...cause I took a little rain walk tonight.
A million and a half years ago I went through a nasty break up. I mourned and grieved and steamed for weeks. And eventually it got to be too much. I had to let it go. It had been blazing hot...unbearably hot. And that night...right as this song came up on my shuffle...the rain came.
It was cool and cleansing. The world needed it..and so did I.
As I remember how good I felt, I have realized how much I need that again.
We always wish things were different. That we were different.
But sometimes we have to make it happen. We have to walk out into the rain. It might be safe with our worries. But we have to run out...get out and scream.
This break has been eventful. I have learned a lot about myself...experienced MANY things that have helped me to feel the need for some epic changes.
So let the rain come down. We are going to make new ground in this new semester. I'm gonna let this rain wash away all the rotten and leave me with the new.
It won't be easy to rebuild. But its for the best.
So thanks rain....thanks for reminding me.
The fact that it snowed yesterday which meant, though I should be back in Columbia, I get an excuse to stay here in St Louis and get spoiled just a little more.
The fact that our house smelled like Thanksgiving all day, cause my mom started making her TURKEY SOUP!
The fact that my super domestic mother, while making her soup, made APPLE PIE! (and my mom makes DANG GOOD pies!!!)
The fact that I made a HUGE last 5 days at home to-do list and have gotten almost half of it crossed off!
also...2 songs that have been playing in my head over and over...not sure why....just like 'em Enjoy!

You know the bed feels warmer Sleeping here alone
You know I dream in color And do the things I want
You think you got the best of me Think you had the last laugh
Bet you think that everything good is gone Think you left me broken down
Think that I'd come running back Baby you don't know me, cause you're dead wrong
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger Stand a little taller
Doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone What doesn't kill you makes a fighter
Footsteps even lighter Doesn't mean I'm over cause you're gone
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, stronger Just me, myself and I
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger Stand a little taller
Doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone
You heard that I was starting over with someone new
They told you I was moving on, over you
You didn't think that I'd come back I'd come back swinging
You try to break me, but you see
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger Stand a little taller
Doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone What doesn't kill you makes a fighter
Footsteps even lighter Doesn't mean I'm over cause you're gone
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, stronger Just me, myself and I
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger Stand a little taller
Doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone
Thanks to you I got a new thing started. Thanks to you I'm not the broken-hearted
Thanks to you I'm finally thinking about me
You know in the end the day you left was just my beginning
In the end...
So yeah maybe its a song mostly for the girls. But guys this could be for you too.
Trials and hard things can make you a better person on the other side...if you let it. If you choose to stand a little taller, if you turn yourself into a fighter.
Life can get you down sometimes.
The going can get pretty rough.
Yes yes it is. (I feel like this title is far too much like that stupid Friday song...dum duh!)
Sundays are interesting days. Sometimes they are very relaxing and full of naps. Other times they are insane with lots of meetings, visiting and home teaching and other social events.
Every so often church is astounding. Usually though it is just alright. I don't mean this in a bad way. There is always something to be learned and there is power in the habit of weekly church attendance. But not every week has to be/or usually is this overwhelming amazing spiritual experience. Those I have found are generally few and far between.
But usually there are still a few moments of clarity. Moments of "oh that is good" "that's something I want to remember" "I've never thought about it that way" Little light bulb moments. Not exactly flood lights...but a little glimmer.
My favorite light-bulb of the day? In RS we were discussing the personal creed George Albert Smith created for himself.
The leader of the discussion (aka the teacher haha) suggested that we think about the forest not just the trees.
We so easily think about how we are not doing this right and we fall short in that area. But what about overall?? Yes..true you can't build a forest without trees. But one or two slightly unsightly trees doesn't kill the forest.
So yeah work on getting those trees beautiful like the others....but remember you are a forest of beautiful trees!
So its winter...and I am feeling withdrawals. Withdrawals from my favorite show on television. Even the wonderful return of the Bachelor has not given me relief from my withdrawal symptoms.
(I know I know...you watch that trashy thing?? Yes....grudgingly...Callie did it! Its not my fault! She got me hooked...stupid addicting dumb reality show!)
ANYWAY! So to pacify my jittery hands and inability to concentrate...I bring you...
THE BEST OF SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE.
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this song. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this dance! The story behind it??? Pretty basic....he left her. And just when she was getting it all back together....he's back. Will she let him back in? Or will she turn him away?
OH SO COOL!!! I love LOVE the movement in this one. The kick turn at 23 seconds...EPIC!
This is REAL DANCING!!! The more recent seasons have the weakest ballroom numbers you have ever seen. DISAPPOINTMENT! This is the good stuff! Oh the old days...when the dancers on this show really stepped up and went out of their comfort zone and truly wowed us
EPIC!!!! sooooooo sooooo good Favorite moment..minute 1 :) And seriously? Could Sabra be more flexible? OUT OF CONTROL!!!!! :)
This was the real beginning of lyrical hip hop. Back in the good old days with Shane Sparks. Love the synchronized section! Allison..best dancer to ever be on this show in 8 seasons Ivan....one of the cutest...and the most improved. LOVE!
Alright....the best lyrical NapyTab number. The heart beat? SICKNESS!!!
ok maybe this one is the best. its just soooo sweet!
Hope this brings a little dancing joy to your day. And never fear....more SYTYCD posts will soon be coming to a computer near you!!!
I have been debating (for several minutes haha) whether or not to post this.
But I feel like it is important. And I want to make a slightly grandiose gesture. And since I get a fairly large number of pageviews a day (hopefully its not my sisters hitting refresh haha) it will end up being pretty grandiose.....I hope.
In the time that I have been blogging several misunderstandings have occurred.
Many people have mistakenly thought that I have been speaking of them, and therefore been offended.
If this has happened to you..I apologize. The possibility (as in the three situations that have been directly brought to my attention) is high that the post you thought was about you...wasn't.
I write about lots of people.
Sometimes something that seems to be written to one specific person, is written to several people.
Sometimes it is written in general, and a name is given to allow for simplicity.
Sometimes I write about people in my life. Sometimes I write about people from my past. Sometimes I write about people my friends and/or family interact with.
Point is....not everything is what it seems. This is a blog is not about my life exactly. Its not a journal of all that happens in my life. It is me being a bad writer... but pretending to be a good one. And that means I take from all my experiences...throughout my entire life. I also take from the experiences I watch those close to me have.
I try to make people laugh, and make people think..see things from my perspective..and understand the wide expanse of feelings that are part of the human experience.
I have thought about not blogging anymore, because of these misunderstandings. I do not mean to, nor do I want to hurt anyone.
It is a difficult battle between taking responsibility for the reactions and interpretations of others and making what other people think not my problem. I don't know the answer. I wish I did.
So for now, I will say this. Please don't assume. I will never tell the whole story, so you will never know it.
And if you are one who has been hurt, I apologize. I do not know if you were actually written about, or if you feel our interactions are eerily similar. Either way, please choose to not be offended. I assure you that I do not mean to offend. I merely wish to share my view of the world, and my interpretation of life's experiences.
So today I was told by my most loyal follower that I had to post something. When I explained nothing exciting happened to me today...I was told I needed to do more exciting things so I would have something to write about :)
But I haven't done ANYTHING exciting today. Slept late...called the bank...worked on a budget...took a nap...watched some TV.
But I also did a lot of thinking. And a lot of music listening. And this one had become the song of the day!
I Look So Good (Without You) by Jessie James on Grooveshark
In talking to people since my post yesterday...most have been concerned that I am bitter and jaded and unhappy.
I prefer to think of myself as enlightened. Seeing things in a new, more realistic light. And mostly? FREE
Now I look good for myself...instead of to get the attention of a boy who isn't even worth my time.
I dyed my hair...and a cut is in the plans...cause I want to, and I think it is gonna look good.
I can focus on school...cause I won't be spending so much time trying to be in the same places as the guy I have my eye on.
I will get so much more sleep...because I will stop staying up late texting/fb chatting etc.in an effort to maintain contact with people who I shouldn't contact in the first place.
I will have time for chick flicks, mani/pedis, facials, deep conditioning and long bubble baths because I will not be flirting my way into Friday and Saturday night dates.
Ok seriously...girls does this sound like a bad life?? I'll be doing what I want to be doing...when I want to be doing it. Not compromising for anyone....not for girls....and ESPECIALLY not for guys.
I feel great. My tears have dried and you can see my brown eyes....full of dreams and ambition.
Its a whole new chapter for me. And I am excited for it to start :D
Its a little selfish maybe. But its time for a little me-time!
For a little something special, I thought we would go back through the delightfully interesting (like a mental condition) year of 2011 and examine the ups and downs of my dating life. Remind ourselves of the key players and the major happenings.
And what better way to do it then with a tribute to my former 365 Song Blog.
Here we go 2011---Triumphs and Heartbreaks
ps...don't forget to check out Elise :)
dear pretty blue eyes
I knew this would end up happening. So I ran before it could. THANK GOODNESS
It meant we could stay friends. Miss you!!!!
love
girl who got weak in the knees everytime you wore that sweater ;)
dear missionary boy
Interesting times for you and me. Midnight on New Years texts....late night hang outs. But really all the heart ache you gave me was of my own creation. So congrats -- you are off the hook. Although this song will always remind me of you!
love
always your friend
dear chicken boy:
You get 3 songs...well really you could get a whole album. But you will get these ones...The beginning...the middle and the end
When I got on that plane in May...remember what I said? That I was walking away from the best thing I had ever had. Turns out...I was wrong. I'll always hate you for what you did to me. But I think I have finally gotten to the point where I don't resent the good times. And you sure taught me A LOT
love
finally over you
dear enigma
Thanks for being there for me when I needed you. When I lived in Provo you were always there. When I moved to Columbia you were always there. Until you weren't anymore. And that broke my heart. Telling you that I was happy for you and your soon-to-be-fiancee...one of the hardest things I've ever done. Of course I'm happy for you...but I'm jealous beyond belief of her. She is getting one of the best guys I have ever known. This is my song for you. Maybe I should have told you on that one walk we took...remember? On 7th North...by the cute townhouses? You asked me who I liked....I can tell you now since I didn't have the courage to then....Minute 3:10
love
girl who will always love you
dear boy next door
You were my best friend. You got me through some rough times. And then things changed. I'm still a little bitter...a little broken about it. You said some pretty unkind things. And didn't really treat me very well. But its time to move on. You have started being nice to me again. Which has kinda thrown me for a bit of a loop. I'm not totally positive if I am ok with this. This is your song:
love
girl next door
dear clark kent
Hmmmm a song for you.....its been interesting with you and me. You were there to make me laugh and smile when I needed it most. But you had a girl friend. And I had a boyfriend. But then both those ended. And we never really got on the same page after that. Not too surprising....it was kinda never gonna work out. But I'm gonna just remember the good times k?
I can't think of a song for you....oh well.........
love
suzy
dear farm boy
You came at the perfect time. You made me smile and laugh and remember that life doesn't have to suck. You made me feel worthwhile again.
Who would have thought we would never speak again.....I certainly didn't....should have....but didn't. It was kinda a rocket ship situation. And I should have known we would crash and burn. You broke my heart and I am still getting over it. I miss you. But someday I'll move on. Hopefully
love
brokenhearted buttercup
dear all other boys of 2011
You guys painted a pretty pathetic picture of yourselves this year. You have left me just a little bitter...pretty jaded....and very unlikely to trust any of you EVER again!
But though this sounds all depressed...I'm really "strangely...up-beat" (name that movie!) about the whole thing. Now I get to focus on me. Its gonna be good. I'm gonna learn to knit. :)
