WDYT Wednesday: Tongue of Angels

A few years ago, Elder Jeffery R Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles (leadership of the LDS church)

I remember when this talk was given.  I remember thinking..what a nice talk, I should remember to speak kindly to everyone.  And then I moved on.  I fell into the trap so many others have also fallen into.

I have, especially in the past several years, been exactly what he described.  I used sarcasm as humor.  I gossiped.  I used biting, passive aggressive words.  My tongue turned into a sharp dagger, pulled out far too often.

It wasn't constant.  I still was generally kind and compassionate, and I never spread vicious rumors. And I rationalized.  I kept lots of secrets, and I told myself that made the gossiping..or "information gathering" ok.  I told myself, people knew I was joking when I teased them. And it became habit.  Became who I was.  But I was rationalizing.

Then I got a taste of my own medicine.  People I called friends made fun of me for any unintelligent thing said, called me names, and treated me with disrespect.  And what would I do?  Give a half smile or forced laugh, while inside, my stomach was turned in knots and my heart received another crack.  It was happening all around me.  It seemed that everyone wanted to jump in on the fun.  The more it happened to me, the more I noticed it happening to others in the group.  And I would again give that half smile and sit silently.

Anyone who has been reading my blog in the past month or so will know that I have been thinking about this a lot.  This talk came to my mind through this thinking process. Its hard to hear such a firm chastisement that is clearly specially designed for me.  But I have decided to take it to heart.  And use it to motivate me.  I want to create positive environments, where people are encouraged and free to be the best versions of themselves.  I want to be kind and not make fun at the expense of others.

And today I want to make a little bit of a challenge.  I have said I write on this blog not only to entertain, but also to make people think.  To put them in the shoes of someone else and develop even more empathy for others.

Think about a time you were treated badly.  Think of a time someone called you a derogatory name.  Ever been called a Whore, a Slut or worse?  Have you ever heard someone else called this, even if joking?  Did you find it very funny?  Did you feel very much like laughing?  And even if you did laugh, did you feel just a little wrong about it?

We have the ability to be so kind.  And at the same time so caustic.
So here is what I am going to do.  I'm going to be more kind.  I'm going to stop gossiping.  I'm not going to use snide, rude comments.  I'm not going to use others as the butts of jokes.

I'm going to let my tongue be the tongue of an angel.
Will you join me?
Its not going to be easy.  I know I will slip up.
But I am going to try my hardest...until my trying becomes doing.

Try with me???  Lets lift people up...not push them down.

Its Wednesday.....so what do you think?
Comment!  I'd love to hear from you!

WDYT Wednesdays: How To Break Up...PART 2

THIS TIME WITH A MAN!!!!!!!!!

According to Dan Bova the executive editor of Maxim.....wow even better credentials than the last one!

Dear Yahoo homepage...thank you so much for your entertaining and insightful articles that you some how manage to pass as news......a topic for discussion on a future Wednesday perhaps......

Be definitive

Don’t let him be the last to know your feelings

Don’t do it online

Steer clear of using fake excuses

Be brief in your explanation

Avoid feeding any drama

Don't know what he means by this. I guess let them get it all out and don't turn it into an arguement?

Secure a breakup buddy
DO YOU HAVE YOUR EXIT BUDDY????? haha name that movie. You did like the guy at some point or you wouldnt have to break up with him cause you wouldnt be dating. So you need to have someone to talk to after that isnt him. Thats super hard I know...cause if you are anything like me...friendship turns into more and then suddenly the person you talk to about this kind of thing is the thing...hahaha (clear as mud right?) But talking to him doesn't help you...and it doesn't help him.

WDYT Wednesday: How to Break Up PART 1......

HOW TO BREAK UP WITH A WOMEN

At least according to.....
Kimberly Dawn Neumann a New York City-based freelance writer whose work has appeared in Cosmopolitan, Maxim, and Marie Claire..... and therefore a complete expert in the field  :)

Don’t just pull a disappearing act on her
YEAH!  It may seem easier to you to just kinda ride off into the sunset never to be heard from again.  But really.....women need closure.  It hurts less to just say "Hey this just isn't going to work out" instead of saying you will call...and then never calling.

Consider the timing before breaking the bad news to her
Is there ever a good time??? I mean really! Yeah maybe its not super nice to tell her when she just got fired. But at the same time....I've been laid off before and it took me a little while to get over it. How long do you want to fake it for?? Is that very fair???

Don’t rely on technology to do the deed

Give her adequate face time

Choose your breakup location wisely

Don’t freak out if she gets emotional afterward

Stay strong in your assertion that it’s time to end things

Don’t be cruel in the name of honesty

Don’t use that “It’s not you, it’s me” line on her

End things properly with her before you start seeing someone else

It’s OK to agree to keep in touch (on special occasions only)

Reassure her

What do You Think About That Wednesday: Can Men and Women Be Friends

So my cousin linked this video on Facebook.   And I found it very very very interesting...and insightful.

So want my ideas on the subject?  Well...let me tell you!

So can guys and girls be friends.  yes and no.  But mostly no.
There is always an underlying tension between guys and girls.  Every interaction between single guys and single girls has a little flirtation.
But this doesn't stop guys and girls from being friends.
However, when guys and girls become good friends...the wheels often come off the wagon.
One or the other always wants more.

Of course this video was I'm sure edited to create the most advantageous display.  The guys all think its not possible...the girls all think it is.
But I also think there is some truth to it.

Think about your good guy friends....or good girl friends.
Have you ever thought about dating them.  Ever wondered what it might be like.  Come on...be honest.  You all have a "what if" friend.  Or more than one.
And then there is also the honest to goodness crush.  But you never would ever say a word.

Now think about the reverse.  You ever thought/know that one of your best guy/girl friends wants more???

I'll be honest...I'm pretty sure I could count on 1...(MAYBE 2) hands the number of good close guy friends I have had that neither of us ever had a crush on the other.

SO blogosphere people...This will be a first.....but I am curious what you all think.  Comment below and we can get a whole conversation going......

so..............................WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THAT!!!!!!!!!???????
